“My experience working with Donna as a member of the Harvard Women’s Swimming and Diving team was transformational, not only in my development as an athlete, but in my approach to all movement. Training a swimmer is not a simple task. It is common for swimmers to refer to lift workouts as “dry land” (suggesting that movement out of the water is anomalous). I have seen numerous swimmers trip on their own feet and dislocate their shoulders. Long limbed, hyper mobile, and strong is a dangerous combination.
Our team is incredibly lucky to work with Donna, who created a lift program that caters to our sport’s unique needs. Donna recognized that our goal was not to gain the most muscle or complete the most push ups. Success in our sport required a lifting program more nuanced than increasing the number of plates on the rack. Donna created drills to strengthen muscle groups whilst promoting fluidity in the water and included movements to activate stabilizers to prevent injury. Donna observes the unique way each athlete’s body moved, constantly giving feedback and providing modifications. Her program clearly delineated goals such as balance, mobility, injury prevention, strength, and better reaction times. Our land proficiency evolved and became not only passable, but powerful. The impact of the BodyTrio method on performance was obvious; we experienced fewer injuries, exploded off of the blocks, and moved through the water with newfound connectedness. The team was training smarter and swimming faster.

During this time, I posted my best college times and felt the most connected to myself and my teammates.
